PLASTIC

Explosif pâteux à base d’hexogène ou de pentrite, le plastic, ou explosif plastique, présente une consistance analogue à celle du mastic de vitrier, mais il ne durcit pas. Il est caractérisé par une brisance élevée et une bonne puissance. Il ne s’altère pas au contact de l’eau; il nécessite l’emploi d’un détonateur pour exploser.

On le prépare en malaxant le produit de base avec un mélange plastifiant constitué d’hydrocarbures liquides et d’un élastomère. (Le malaxage est précédé d’une granulation.) Le plastic est ensuite moulé en pains de 500 grammes.

Cet explosif est normalement utilisé par les troupes du génie, par exemple pour faire sauter des ouvrages d’art. Le fait qu’il ne s’altère pas sous l’eau le rend très utile pour la démolition de ponts. Sa malléabilité permet de l’introduire dans des fissures et, plus généralement, de prendre une forme quelconque. Il a été utilisé à maintes reprises pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale pour les actes de résistance.
